A Center of Excellence in Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery since 2014, Palmetto General Hospital continues to make patient safety their number one priority. Surgeon of Excellence and Medical Director of Bariatric Surgery, Dr. Jorge Luis Sosa, feels fortunate to have helped with the department’s accreditation and it is now one of the leading bariatric surgery programs in the state. Currently, more than 300 bariatric surgical procedures are performed each year, including gastric bypass, sleeve gastrectomy and lap bands.
