For Facilities

WHY ACHIEVE ACCREDITATION?

SRC accredits the top hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers in the world. Even the best centers can improve.

The fundamentals of an SRC Accreditation are intrinsic to the delivery of safe and effective patient care. Designees that follow SRC’s proven processes and methodologies will increase their case volumes, improve outcomes and reduce complications – results that directly impact the bottom line.

Participants in SRC’s Accreditation programs begin to experience benefits as soon as they make the commitment to pursue accreditation. Then once accredited, SRC takes an active role in helping our designees gain a return on their investment through our CARE Program™ and BOLD™, our patient outcomes database.

In a recent survey, designees reported the following benefits of achieving and maintaining their accreditation:

REQUIREMENTS

In partnership with key opinion leaders and industry professionals, SRC developed Center of Excellence accreditation programs. These programs recognize facilities (hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers) and specific medical professionals from their service lines who are committed to achieving defined standards for patient safety and care quality.

SRC’s Center of Excellence accreditation programs are unique because they credential both the facility and only those medical professionals who meet our rigorous standards. The following are the general requirements included in each Center of Excellence accreditation program. For specific requirements, please complete this form or email us.

1. Institutional Commitment to Excellence
The applicant facility is committed to excellence and has credentialing and privileging guidelines for the co-applicant medical professionals in their specific specialty department.

2. Experience
The applicant facility and each co-applicant medical professional must perform a required number of qualifying procedures annually. Co-applicant medical professionals must have performed a specific number of qualifying procedures during their lifetime (see our Programs, Pricing & Volumes page).

3. Physician Program Director
The applicant facility must appoint a Physician Program Director (or co-directors) for the specialty department seeking accreditation.

4. Consultative Services
The applicant facility must have a full complement of consultative services necessary for the routine and intensive care of their patients and potential complications specific to the department seeking accreditation.

5. Equipment and Instruments
For each department seeking accreditation, the applicant facility must maintain a full line of equipment and instruments necessary to provide appropriate care for their patients.

6. Dedication of Medical Professionals and Qualified Call Coverage
For each department seeking accreditation, the co-applicant medical professional has active, full privileges at the applicant facility and is board-certified by the highest certifying authority available. Co-applicant medical professionals must have qualified call coverage and complete between 12-24 continuing medical education hours (depending on their specialty) every three years.

7. Clinical Pathways and Standardized Operating Procedures
The applicant has implemented the required clinical pathways and standard operating procedures to facilitate the standardization of patient care within the department seeking accreditation.

8. Team and Support Staff
For each department seeking accreditation, the applicant facility employs a program coordinator, nurses and/or physician extenders and a consultative team trained to treat and care for their patients and provides ongoing, regularly scheduled staff education in-services.

9. Patient Education
For each department seeking accreditation, the facility and each co-applicant medical professional must provide their patients with comprehensive patient education and maintain a process for obtaining informed surgical consent and selecting procedures that are most appropriate for each patient’s condition.

10. Continuous Quality Assessment
All applicants must collect prospective outcomes data on each patient they treat.

OUR ACCREDITATION PROCESS

01. REGISTER

To start the accreditation process, click here.

02. ACHIEVE PROVISIONAL STATUS/PREPARE FOR INSPECTION

Once the application fee is paid and the Terms and Conditions accepted, the applicant attains Provisional Status, the first milestone in the accreditation process. During Provisional Status, applicants will receive their inspection preparation materials, schedule their on-site walk-through and receive preparation assistance from SRC’s inspection team as needed.

03. INSPECTIONS

The purpose of an SRC inspection is to confirm that the applicant meets each accreditation requirement. The inspection process is divided into four parts: document submission, medical chart review, interviews and on-site walk-through. They are not pass/fail. Instead, applicants are given sufficient time to rectify any deficiencies identified during the process. SRC is closely involved with the applicant during preparation for the on-site walk-through. On-site walk-throughs are not a surprise. Applicants determine a date that is convenient for them.

Inspectors are full-time employees of SRC. They are committed to helping facilities and medical professionals succeed in quality improvement and patient safety.

Accreditation awards are not simply handed out to any and all applicants. Although rigorous and thorough, each inspection is a meaningful experience. They are as consultative as they are evaluative. SRC inspectors routinely provide both applicants and designees with useful recommendations gained from inspecting thousands of the best centers worldwide.

04. ACHIEVE ACCREDITATION

Once the inspection process has been completed and the facility and each co-applicant medical professional have been approved by the reviewers, SRC will notify the applicants they have earned accreditation. If a candidate is not approved, they will be given the opportunity to correct any deficiencies and be reconsidered for accreditation.

05. MAINTAIN ACCREDITATION

Accreditation remains in place as long as the center and each co-applicant medical professional remains in good standing and in verifiable compliance with all current requirements and other program criteria. Although designees are evaluated periodically throughout their accreditation, a program compliance inspection is performed every three years. Designees should periodically refer to the requirements section for updated requirements and amendments.

EXPEDITED ACCREDITATION PROGRAM (EAP) NOW AVAILABLE

Purpose: To make effective use of a lull in elective/non-emergency surgery, bypass travel and visitor restrictions and accommodate a remote working environment to fast track accreditation.

Overview: Submit an EAP packet designed to minimize the time and effort of application and inspection. Applicants will be notified within two weeks of their accreditation approval. An on-site walk-through will be scheduled within six months for confirmation and consulting purposes.

Benefits: More than ever, patients are becoming shoppers. An SRC accreditation is a differentiator. The expedited approach is designed to minimize the time and effort of the application process, so busy hospitals and surgeons can gain accreditation quickly.

Contact SRC to register for the EAP.

PROGRAMS, PRICING AND VOLUME

SRC’s Center of Excellence accreditation programs recognize facilities (hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers) and their medical professionals providing exceptional care. These centers are dedicated to establishing a culture of excellence and are committed to continuous improvement to quality and patient safety.

SRC’s Center of Excellence programs require that facilities seeking accreditation in a particular specialty must apply with at least one qualifying medical professional from that department. Medical professionals interested in seeking their own accreditation without a facility co-applicant should pursue an SRC Master accreditation.

Fees and volume requirements for each program are listed below by specialty. For more information, please complete this form or email us.

SRC AND NAFC JOIN FORCES TO RECOGNIZE CENTERS OF EXCELLENCE IN CONTINENCE CARE FOR WOMEN

NAFC Continence Care

SRC has has been endorsed by the National Association for Continence (NAFC), the nation’s leading advocate for individuals with bladder and bowel conditions, to administer a set of standards and certification process to recognize Centers of Excellence in Continence Care for Women. This partnership builds on SRC’s and NAFC’s existing Centers of Excellence program, which identifies facilities that meet rigorous benchmarks for training, clinical experience, resources and patient satisfaction. The goal is to help those dealing with pelvic floor dysfunction and incontinence issues find experts that have been thoroughly and independently vetted for their quality of care.

LUGPA

This program is also endorsed by LUGPA, the nation’s only trade association for independent urologists and their practices.
