Strategic Alliances Group

While multispecialty surgical teams are the actual providers of care, other constituencies play a pivotal role in transforming the health and care of bariatric surgery patients. The Strategic Alliances Group (SAG) brings together industry stakeholders – payors, policymakers, professional liability insurers, patient advocacy groups, pharmaceutical and medical device companies, and others – to facilitate dialogue and encourage active participation in improving bariatric surgical care quality, access and safety.

This group focuses on the following activities on behalf of the bariatric and metabolic specialty:

• Strengthening member efforts in the marketplace through affiliation with the recognized standard in center of excellence designation for the bariatric surgery specialty
• Providing input on center of excellence program requirements and processes
• Making recommendations on BOLD enhancements and reports
• Participating in ASMBS advocacy initiatives to improve payor coverage
• Gaining access to bariatric surgical expertise
• Collaborating on clinical studies
