LeapFrog Survey Gives Credit to Hospitals Participating in BOLD™

The LeapFrog Group has added Surgical Review Corporation’s Bariatric Outcomes Longitudinal Database™ (BOLD™) as a national performance measurement entity for bariatric surgery in the 2008 Hospital Quality and Safety Survey scheduled for release April 1. Hospitals that participate in BOLD and submit their data on all bariatric procedures are given a ¼-credit/circle in the Evidence-Based Hospital Referral (EBHR) section.

“Health plans, patients and others reference Leapfrog scores when making decisions regarding quality,” said Jackie Lueck Sneve, Vice President of Strategic Alliances. “This boost in score rewards hospitals that strive for excellence to achieve the ASMBS BSCOE designation and continue to foster excellence by submitting their data into BOLD.”

Each year, the Leapfrog Group, a non-profit organization gathers and reports information on hospital and patient safety efforts to help consumers and employers make informed decisions about their health care. The survey is voluntary and asks hospitals whether they meet the following four quality and safety practices or “leaps”:

  • Computer Physician Order Entry (CPOE)
  • ICU Physician Staffing (IPS)
  • Evidence-Based Hospital Referral (EBHR)
  • Safe Practices Score (SPS)

All U.S. hospitals are welcome to participate in the Hospital Quality and Safety Survey; however, Leapfrog formally invites hospitals in specific geographic areas that Leapfrog employer and employer-coalition members have made a voluntary commitment to encourage the hospitals in their communities to publicly report their quality and safety practices.

Visit Leapfrog’s Web site to view results of the survey.
