SRC recognizes F. F. Thompson Hospital in Canandaigua, New York for achieving the Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery and the Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery accreditations and for continuing their commitment to sustaining a culture of excellence.
According to the surgeons and staff members who participated, the site inspection process of accreditation gives teams the opportunity to identify goals and improve methods and outcomes while making positive changes for patients and associates.
The process breaks down barriers between departments to ensure common goals and it identifies four key reasons accreditation is so important to achieve. These four points include: improving patient safety, decreasing complications, improving team cooperation and increasing patient awareness. Since achieving accreditation, administration has recorded increased patient volumes and decreased opioid prescriptions.
“Since becoming a Center of Excellence in Hernia Surgery, our patients undergoing robotic assisted hernia repair have not required post-operative narcotics.”
-Joseph A Talarico, MD, FACS, Director of Hernia Center of Excellence
