BOLD Data Requests
SRC encourages and supports broad access to BOLD data. SRC’s Data Dissemination Policies and Procedures (D2P2) were developed to govern the use and sharing of BOLD data with COE participants, outside investigators and other third parties. The D2P2 protects the integrity of BOLD data, safeguards participant and patient information, and promotes timely and scientifically accurate presentation and publication of data. The D2P2 Overview describes the process by which COE participants and others can submit BOLD data access and dissemination requests. Those interested in accessing the full text of the D2P2 should contact SRC’s Research Team (research null@null surgicalreview NULL.org) to request a copy.
COE Participants
COE participants may use their own program data as reported in BOLD for the following purposes without submitting a data request:
- Monitoring internal quality assurance and quality improvement processes to satisfy institutional requirements
- Reporting their own statistics and outcomes to inform individual referring physicians, help counsel patients and families, as well as strengthen collaborative decision-making with surgical and nonsurgical colleagues
- Aiding managed care, hospital-surgeon and other contract negotiations
- Promoting and marketing their bariatric program
COE participants seeking additional data on their own programs that is not contained in the standard BOLD reports or data for research or general information purposes must submit a formal BOLD Data Access Request. If the request is also for publication purposes, a BOLD Data Dissemination Request must be submitted. This process provides the necessary checks and balances for the use of BOLD data. Third-Party Requests
SRC welcomes the use of BOLD data by researchers, payors, government and other stakeholders interested in bariatric and metabolic surgery. Any party interested in using BOLD data for research or commercial purposes must submit a formal BOLD Data Access Request. If the request is also for publication purposes, a BOLD Data Dissemination Request must be submitted. This process provides the necessary checks and balances for the use of BOLD data. Media Requests
Journalists may request limited data for general information purposes. These requests are not intended for use in original research or data analysis projects. Media requests should be directed to Alyssa Willard (alyssa NULL.willard null@null surgicalreview NULL.org), SRC’s Manager of Media and Communications.
